2.1.5 Benefits of the WebCT

WebCT scores well in the functionality areas. It talks explicitly about accessibility issues and inter-operability standards. The WebCT web site includes a detailed product ‘roadmap’. Course creation and management tools are extensive. Like Blackboard, WebCT offers strong support for IMS standards and accessibility requirements, including the possibility of producing localized versions to cope with any variation in accessibility requirements (such as emerging legal requirements in the UK). WebCT offers a variety of language plug-ins so that a course environment can be developed in, say, French – examples might be a language course or a distance course for overseas students. The software does not translate materials but key aspects of the course environment can be presented in a number of languages.
